We look for exceptional people.

Not Just Clowing Around

Brian Smith isn’t just a pretty face. He is funny. And smart. And savvy. Savvy enough to become an industry expert on comparison shopping and found a company that all started with a blog.

The July 27, 2007 edition of the Silicon Valley Business Journal featured a great article on Brian and his company SingleFeed entitled “Finding Comparative Success.”

We are still slightly concerned that Brian’s real ambition is to return to stand-up comedy, but we are happy to be along for his ride into the startup world. Congrats, Brian, on your success thus far!

Stinson Strategy

We have just concluded our second annual strategy session at Stinson Beach, where we spent a few days reviewing the past and planning for the future.

It has been an exciting year for our team and portfolio. At our wrap-up dinner, we had several new entrepreneurs to introduce, including Mark Hall from VodPod, Brian Smith from Singlefeed (a new Always On Top 100 winner), and Mike Derezin & Bill Armistead from Voxpop.

This year we were joined by Kara Swisher, who did an entertaining video travelogue of her adventure.

Thanks to all of our entrepreneurs for making the trip and congrats on your tremendous progress over the past year.

Clean and Green

Congrats to Om, Katie and the rest of GigaOm for this week’s launch of Earth2Tech.

We’re biased, of course, but we think the site looks fantastic, and we’re excited to see the GigaTeam point their news gathering capabilities and astute analysis on such a big new market.

The New York Times picked it up here.
