We are very excited to announce that True’s very own Jon Callaghan will serve as the 2015-2016 Chairman of the National Venture Capital Association’s Board of Directors. Jon’s appointment was made official today at the NVCA’s annual meeting, VentureScape.

As the voice of the U.S. venture capital community, the NVCA empowers its members and the entrepreneurs they fund by advocating for policies that encourage innovation and reward long-term investment. Jon assumes the chairmanship of the venture industry’s flagship trade association at a pivotal time for venture capital and the broader entrepreneurial ecosystem.

During his tenure, Jon hopes to lead the NVCA to take an inclusive view of venture capital, inviting larger factions of the entrepreneurial ecosystem into the conversation on issues impacting the venture capital industry. The industry’s role in policy discussions is larger than ever, and the issues it can impact are national in scope: immigration, capital formation, regulation, JOBS act reform, cyber security, privacy and patent reform, to name a few.

In Jon’s own words:

“Throughout my career, I have been lucky enough to be a part of entrepreneurial creativity many, many times. I have always referred to the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the U.S. as a national treasure—the forces required for success for entrepreneurs are almost incomprehensible, impossible to predict and ever elusive. And yet, despite these challenges, venture capital and entrepreneurship consistently invent industries, develop brilliant products and solve human problems at world scale. This happens regularly in our industry—literally all the time. Venture capital is powerful and flexible, democratic and transparent; equally capable of handling investment success and failure. Venture capital is uniquely American, and I am humbled and honored to serve the NVCA in protecting and enhancing this remarkable national treasure.”

Jon’s work with the NVCA is consistent with True’s founding mission of making the world a better place for entrepreneurs. We are incredibly proud of his vision for the venture capital industry in the coming year.

Congratulations Jon!
