Toni Schneider & Matt Mullenweg of Automattic, who received two awards at tonight’s Crunchies. The Crunchies were held tonight at Herbst Theatre in downtown San Francisco. The event was co-hosted by GigaOm, Read/Write Web, TechCrunch, and VentureBeat. Toni Schneider, CEO of Automattic, was awarded a Crunchie for the Best Startup CEO. Founder Matt Mullenweg accepted the Most Likely to Succeed Crunchie on behalf of Automattic WordPress.

The Crunchies’ Academy, that is. Meebo took home the Crunchie award for Best Consumer Start-up at tonight’s ceremony. GigaOm, Read/Write Web, TechCrunch, and VentureBeat co-hosted this award ceremony to honor the best of the web. The readers picked the winners, with over 100,000 votes cast.

Already Lucky in ‘08

Om Malik himself broke the news of his recent heart attack in classic GigaOm style: open, to the point, well thought-out, and witty. As usual, trying to write anything after you read one of Om’s posts is at best a humbling experience. He is The Master.
All of us are so thankful for Om’s recovery. We’re also extremely impressed with Om’s close friends, family, and colleagues at GigaOm, who mobilized over the past few days to create a remarkable support system for his recovery. The integrity and professionalism with which Paul, Liz, Katie, Surj, Carolyn, and the entire team acted during this trying time will inspire us all for years to come, and it was a rare privilege for me to witness. If fortune is measured by the quality of friends and people who surround you, then Om is surely at the top of the heap. (Is 583 comments a new record?).
Get well soon, dear friend. All of us at True are here to make your 2008 resolutions a reality. We look forward to many happier and healthier New Years’ together.
The Business of Blogging

The San Francisco Chronicle ran a piece yesterday about the business of blogging. In his article, Zuckerman acknowledges that blogging has matured from a hobby into a serious business. True’s Jon Callaghan is quoted on the industry, as well as GigaOm’s COO Paul Walborsky. Of course, GigaOm’s coverage of the technology industry is an excellent example.
