Stinson Beach 2013

In the summer of 2006, True Ventures had closed on the majority of its first fund, and our small team headed up to Stinson Beach for our first offsite, where we would brainstorm ways to make good on our new firm’s mission to make the world a better place for entrepreneurs.

Seven years later, we just celebrated Stinson VIII. We have raised two additional funds and our team is 17-strong (with a handful of advisors and consultants joining us as well), but “Stinson” remains an annual check-in on our original mission—are we living up to the values we set forth at our firm’s inception; are we doing the right things for Founders, for our investors and for ourselves?

Stinson is also a time for the True team to connect. Like everyone, we have busy lives and more than one place to be at any given moment. But one of the reasons we started this firm together is because we genuinely like each other, and it’s important for us to take some time to just hang out and have fun. That sense of togetherness permeates our meeting time as well—we have a “no devices” rule while we talk, which helps us all be completely present in the moment while we build a collective vision for the year ahead.

Stinson is special to us, and we left this year’s retreat with some awesome ideas to help the Founders in our portfolio, as well as a vision of how we want to further impact the venture capital community (more on that later). For now, we thought we’d share some photos with you of our time together, and wish you a wonderful rest of the summer.
