True North: The "Candle Mold" Thesis

True Team

Last month in LA: forty builders, two days, an accelerator designed as your best AI-pilled group chat come to life. We'll host v2 on June 17 in SF . Keep reading to request an invite. See Madeline's recap of round one →

The mold is the asset, not the candle. Anyone can pour wax (write code). The mold — critic agents in separate repos, video proof of every bug fix, 1,000 screenshots scrolled in bulk at dawn — is what compounds. The founders shipping fastest have shifted creative energy upstream from code generation to validation infrastructure. Code isn't the asset. The system that validates the code is.

Build for model change. With every new release, builders strip back and rebuild what breaks. The scaffolding you built six months ago is almost definitely wrong today. Build rails — observability, evals, structured logging — and expect constant change. Teams locked in on one model provider have platform risk.

Your corpus is the moat. Tokens are the final digital good — and the cheapest input in your stack is also the most undervalued. Pay the paywalls. License the data. Build a local inspiration directory of every research artifact your agents have ever touched, semantic-indexed, never checked into git. Your agents don't get smarter because the models do — they get smarter because your corpus does.

True Team & Network

Some firms have data analysts. We've got an AI builder in residence. Meet Keerthi Nalabotu — building the workflows, automations, and tools that sharpen our team's ability to back and support exceptional founders.

Our Annual Meeting. LPs and founders, together. What we heard: Sam Ramji of Sailplane on the SaaSpocalypse (or is it a SaaSacre?). Viswa Colluru of Enveda — a deeply personal journey of building a category-defining AI bio company. Ty Daly of Vers demoing infrastructure that lets a thousand agents explore in parallel. Ben Broca of Polsia on autonomous agents running real businesses overnight. Nathan Baschez of Lex on why True's founders are the moat built for this moment. See more from the day →

Founders Building

SuppCo . Huge congrats to Steve Martocci and Nick Michlewicz on the acquisition by Function Health. We were first to believe in Steve at Splice and again at SuppCo, where he and Nick built the trust layer for supplements. Backing exceptional founders across chapters is one of the best parts of this business.

The Nuclear Company is partnering with Brookfield to start a new chapter in American nuclear history. First up: development of one of the most execution-ready nuclear development projects in the country.

Bumo . Founder Joan Nguyen and team launched Bennie, the first AI-powered family assistant — built for the operational chaos of modern parenting.

From Our Perspective

New website. Same DNA, fresh canvas.

Quantum is early. It's also closer than most people think.

Soul Dayan on where True is spending time across the quantum stack — application layer, software stack, quantum-AI intersection — and why the “quantum moment” being years away is exactly why now is the time to build.

Our AI Accelerator sequel: the AI Workflow Summit. San Francisco, June 17. For the first time, we're opening up our builder events to the greater tech ecosystem. Request an invite . →

Weird Internet

Hamster estates, but make it artisanal. A YouTube channel where strangers build absurdly elaborate handmade houses — for rescue animals. Multi-story hamster mansions, the works. →

Sit next to me. A humanoid robot spotted in Oakland Airport, waiting at the gate like the rest of us. →
